The form of this particular project revolves around a ceiling, however, this ceiling is both structural and integrated with the rest of the building. The unique structure that folds on different points allows for the interior space to become extremely intimate or more open. Also, the material used for this project is a combination of glass, steel, and concrete. The reason for these three materials to exist is based on light. The project allows for light to enter from certain points creating different shadows during the day time, and the artificial lighting at night also reflects with the use of glass and hanging ceilings. Due to its modern architecture style, the project stands out attracting people to visit the courtyards and the outside spaces before becoming eager to see what is on the outside due to its structure and shape.

Recreation Ramp

Play is an important aspect of life in Al Muwaileh district (Sharjah, UAE). We witnessed children playing in groups running through the lobby of buildings and around the buildings’ sidewalks. It is incredible to see that this activity of play-running begin to uncover a porous nature and highly accessible network of reconnection between buildings in the development that is otherwise invisible and covered. Our project at first began to visualize these porosity by designing running play paths that cuts into the volume of the building mass. This strategy is repeated in section and developed into a formalized running track for adult joggers. This recreation track responds to the growing need for family based facilities that promote healthy lifestyle that is not consumption based. This top track surrounds the open main entrance and the lobby of the public mediatheque.

Bathing Unit

This small space was designed with the intention to provide an area for people to rinse and cool off after the beach. The project is a unit that can be placed on any site. The concept behind the unit was to create an experience of relaxation that the light refractions create off of the roof. Also their is an unshaded area for those who wish to sunbathe in a relaxed and closed off environment. The roof curves around the building to form a shelf for towels and the metal holding the wooden pathway offers a cold feeling to the touch that enhances the experience as one moves through the space. Also the ledge covers a part of the pool allowing for a more secluded area while in the pool space.
